Boys had been bad enough when the adults were here to protect her. Sure, she was sort of a wimp, but they needn’t try and use it against her, right? Rue sighed as she looked at the room full of males and females, grinding on one another, as if nothing was wrong. How incorrect they were. Sighing, she stuffed her hands into the pockets of the jeans she was wearing, staring at them all, but her mind was far, far away from here, with two people, and surprisingly, boys. Kade and Max.
Kade was something else. Her best friend, yeah, but he had been gone for far too long. She missed him more than she could have missed her own brother. And then, there was Max. He had been here when Kade had gone, and he had played the part of ‘big brother’ and protector, at least, in her eyes. He was her everything. She was brought back into the here and now by a voice, a male voice. ‘Damn girl.’ Excuse me? What had he just said? Rue looked at him, confused as she tilted her head to the left, wondering why a boy she didn’t even know would talk to her in such a manner. Was he loopy?
‘You alone?’ The very question made her quiver, goose bumps popping up every which way as she looked at him, just standing their, unsure if she should make any sudden movements. She had never been in this type of situation before, though Kade had some times made some joking comments of the like. She opened her mouth to speak, but then nothing came forth. What was going to happen to her now?! Rue was such a spineless little chimp, it surprised her she hadn’t gotten beaten up yet! Then again, she had always had Kade around to be her muscle. She was just…there. Not the brains of the outfit, nothing. Just there, dead weight. She took in a breath and calmly began to think of what to say to this boy before he grabbed her arm, pulling her onto the dance floor. Well….this will certainly be interesting.
